A distinguished one-year intensive study called the LLM/MPhil in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa (HRDA) wants 25–30 excellent students spend six months in Pretoria and afterwards, spends six months at one of the 12 partner universities around Africa. For the most part, students receive instruction from renowned human rights lecturers and participate in a variety of hands-on training activities.
Pretoria, South Africa‘s administrative and de facto capital, is meanwhile, home to the multi-campus, public University of Pretoria. The fourth continuously operating institution in South Africa to receive university status, the university was founded in 1908 as the Pretoria campus of the Johannesburg-based Transvaal University College. The institution now has almost 53,000 students, up from 32 when it first opened in a single late Victorian home. In addition to that, on 1,190 hectares, seven outlying campuses were used to construct the institution (2,900 acres).
The institution is further divided into a business school and nine faculties. The University of Pretoria Faculty of Veterinary Science is the sole veterinary school in South Africa and the second-oldest veterinary school in Africa. It was founded in 1920. The university’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) has continuously been regarded as the top corporate school in Africa for executive education and among the top 50 in the world. In 1949, the university introduced the first MBA programme outside of North America. The GIBS Executive MBA was ranked first in Africa and sixty-first overall in 2012 by the Financial Times.

Qualifications for the Human Rights and Democratization Scholarships

Candidates must have exemplary academic records and exhibit interest in or involvement with human rights. Those with impairments, LGBTI people, and members of minority groups including indigenous people are especially encouraged to apply.
The Scholarships in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa are only open to residents of Africa.
Class: Masters
Value of Award: Up to 25 African citizens may get full scholarships. This covers their tuition, housing, and official programme activities, depending on funding availability. Up to 30 awards will be given.

Applications for the University of Pretoria’s study abroad programme can be submitted entirely online.
