The AIMS South Africa master’s Scholarship Program is now accepting applications from qualified candidates. The African Institute of Mathematical Sciences is supporting the program to ensure that many more African students can participate in pioneering research and contribute to future scientific discoveries.

About AIMS Scholarship Program

AI for Science is a new stream in AIMS South Africa’s Master of Mathematical Science degree, made possible by a collaboration with DeepMind. The program exists at the exciting crossroads of AI and the Sciences.
It is a one-year residential taught master’s program with a research component. The program’s initial focus areas will be AI and machine learning in cosmology, epidemiology, and ecology.

Who Can Apply?

Students from all over Africa who are interested in mathematics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning can apply. We are looking for students who are awestruck by the stars and the world around them and want to use their abilities to accelerate scientific discovery.

Benefits AIMS South Africa Masters Scholarship Program

  • For the next four years, a DeepMind donation will fund 40 scholars per year.
  • The funding covers full scholarships, as well as student equipment and computation costs.
  • The scholars will be DeepMind scholars, with opportunities for mentoring and support from DeepMind’s researchers and engineers.
  • Aside from scholarships, the program will leverage
  • DeepMind’s world-class expertise in AI for Science.
  • Because the program is fully funded, you do not need a South Africa Student Loan.

How To Apply For AIMS Masters Scholarship Program

AIMS South Africa invites students from all over Africa to apply to be a part of the August 2024 cohort and one of 40 DeepMind Scholars for the 2024-25 academic year!

Prerequisites

You must do the following to be eligible to apply for the AI for Science program:

  • Be a resident of Africa at the time of application.,
  • Be a citizen of any African country.
  • Have completed a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree with an honors year by August 2024 (or December 2024 for applicants from Southern Africa).
  • Your bachelor’s degree could be in physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or any other field with a strong computational and mathematical component.

The first round of applications closes at 11:59 p.m. SAST on April 8th.
