You can now apply for the 2023/2024 DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Scholarships Programme, which provides full funding for master’s degree studies in Germany. Successful applicants are expected to return to their home countries after completing their studies to effect development with the knowledge they have gained.

The DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Scholarships-Programme (also known as Public Policy and Good Governance) provides assistance to future leaders from underdeveloped countries. The German Federal Foreign Office-funded program allows students to get a Master’s degree in Master programs that are particularly relevant to the social, political, and economic development of their home countries.

Eligibility Criteria | DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme 2023/2024

The DAAD Helmut-Schmidt Scholarship Program is open to graduates from developing countries (bachelor’s degree or equivalent);

  • has a well-qualified first university degree in social and political sciences, law, economics, public policy, or administration.
  • willing to actively contribute to the social, political, and economic growth of their own countries/regions.
  • who have prior relevant practical experience (professional experience, internships, political/social engagement).

Scholarship Benefits

In addition to the perks listed below, DAAD scholarship holders are exempt from paying tuition costs.

  • Scholarships (currently € 931 a month) for master’s degrees at German universities.
  • In Germany, health insurance is mandatory.
  • Appropriate travel allowances for trips between Germany and the developing countries.
  • A grant for research and study.
  • Subsidies for rent and family supplements, when appropriate.
  • Prior German language training in Germany (up to 6 months). Participation is required.
