To apply for a Fulbright scholarship in 2023, please follow the on-screen instructions below:

(1) Fill out an online application

Before applying to the Fulbright program, you must gather a number of materials that will assist the USEFP in evaluating your qualifications. Your application must include all materials.

(2) Create academic transcripts and diplomas

All transcripts and degrees from a four-year undergraduate degree or its equivalent (equivalent programs include international three-year bachelor’s programs or ACCA). Transcripts for MPhil or MS degrees are also required for PhD applicants. You can apply while still in your final year of undergraduate study if you complete your bachelor’s degree by December of this year. The USEFP considers not only your GPA, but also your transcripts. They consider the schools you attended, the courses you took, and how well you performed in each one. They also take into account the fact that different grading systems exist at different universities. Although the majority of Fulbright students have outstanding undergraduate records, there is no minimum GPA requirement for application. When evaluating a candidate, the Fulbright panel takes into account a variety of factors, including undergraduate academic performance.

(3) Take the GRE General Test as well as the TOFEL Exam.

When submitting your application, you can include either your official GRE score or your unofficial GRE score from the day of the test. Every applicant must use the code 9388 to request that ETS send an official score report directly to USEFP. GRE general (international) test scores are required at the time of application. Meanwhile, a good GRE score in engineering and sciences is 315, while a good score in other fields is 310.

The GRE subject test is however optional. The Fulbright program requires a minimum GRE score of 138 in the verbal section and 136 in the quantitative section. However, most accepted applicants have GRE scores in the upper percentiles. In addition to this, If you take the GRE more than once, you may report your highest GRE score, and Fulbright will only consider that score. It is therefore not necessary to take the TOEFL at the time of application. You will be required to take the TOEFL exam if you receive an interview invitation. Consequently, use of IELTS is not advised.

(4) Write two essays.

For the Fulbright application, two essays are however required. Each essay must be no more than 800 words, as specified on the application. Write concisely in your essays rather than using too many words so that the Fulbright panel, which has little familiarity with your area, can better grasp you. Before starting the essays, you must develop a personal marketing plan. Successful applicants often spend 4-6 weeks writing and revising their essays.

(5) You need three letters of recommendation.

You must submit your application along with three letters of recommendation by the application deadline. Three letters of recommendation from academic institutions are however acceptable, two professional and one academic letter and put a seal on a package. Following the completion of your online application, your referees will receive an email with a link to a form.

The phrase “who should write your references” might mean a variety of things. It is occasionally impossible to get your employer to write your reference because USEFP does not want to jeopardize your existing position during the application procedure. Find those who know you well enough to respond, that’s all. It might be a professor, researcher, or a previous job.

(6) Create Academic Resume

Fill the space on the application form with a resume that is up-to-date and current. It certainly doesn’t have to be in a particular format for you.

(7) Interview Following review of your written application

Finally, you may be invited to a panel interview, Decisions regarding interviews are made by the middle of September, and interviews are held in October. If you don’t hear back from USEFP by October, consequently it means that you weren’t selected. Although the interview is a good indication of selection, admission is not guaranteed,A panel of four people conduct 15 to 30 minute interviews. On the day of the interview, you must bring your TOEFL registration slip, but you are not required to have taken the test by the date of the interview.
