The PhD studentships will be focused on collecting new data on fashion economies that are useful to industry and on idea development on lead enterprises in the global South. The program’s goal is to help students expand their perspectives beyond Africa’s limited resources and focus on creativity, ideas, and innovation.

King’s College London Africa Studentships 2023/24 | Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the King’s College London Africa Studentships:

  • Be Africans and live in an African country permanently.
  • Plan to begin a full-time MPhil/PhD program at King’s College London in the 2023-24 academic year (ideal applicant would begin in October 2023 but no later than January 2024).
  • Meet the academic requirements for admission to the PhD program at King’s College London’s Faculty of Social Science and Policy.
  • You should have or anticipate to have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) with a High Merit or Distinction in any discipline.
  • International Political Economy; Political Economy; Fashion Management; Business;
  • Development Studies; Culture, Media & Creative Industries; Policy; Sociology; Geography; Social Sciences are disciplinary areas of particular significance.
  • A strong intellectual, professional, and personal interest in fashion and the creative economy.
  • Excellent teamwork, observation, organization, and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

Scholarship Benefits

For four years, the studentship covers the following:

  • Tuition at the highest international/international rate.
  • An annual stipend (living allowance) at the UKRI rate (fixed at £19,688 for the fiscal year 2022/23).
  • An annual research budget of up to £5,000 is required.
