Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship Grant Program- The Office for International Students and Scholars at Michigan State University is pleased to offer the Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship Grant Program to interested and exceptional students who wish to enroll in a degree program at the University.

This award is intended to encourage MSU African students (particularly women) to study at MSU and thus contribute to the development of their country.

Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship Grant Program | DETAILS

  • The Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship can make at least two $1,000 awards per year. The number of awards made and the actual award amounts are determined by the quality of proposals and the resources available during the fiscal year in which funds are proposed to be spent.
  • Proposals may ask for funding for tuition or other educational expenses such as research or dissertation writing. Personal, educational, and family expenses will also be taken into account. Proposals for partial financial assistance to attend a professional conference will also be considered.

Criteria for Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship Grant Program:

  • Candidates must be Africans.
  • Applicants must be African students at MSU who are in good academic standing. (The grant prioritizes women’s educational advancement).
  • Applicants must be MSU students studying on a temporary visa.
  • Applicants must describe the factors that make them likely to return to their home country.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated the ability to achieve their educational goals and the confidence to pursue additional opportunities to further their education.
