SA-GER CDR Postgraduate Scholarships and Internships -These are fully funded scholarships and internships in South Africa and Germany. The DRD offers a limited number of DAAD merit scholarships per year to applicants from Sub-Saharan African countries with an excellent academic record.

Masters and doctoral students are encouraged to apply for the full scholarships. Aside from full scholarships for participation in one of the aforementioned programs, there are a limited number of mobility scholarships for Master students available each year.

SA-GER CDR Postgraduate Scholarships and Internships | DETAILS

These scholarships are fully funded for Masters and PhD studies in South Africa, as well as a study period in Germany. Full-time students enrolled in the following courses are eligible for scholarships.

  • Master’s degree in Development Studies.
  • Master’s degree in Public Administration.
  • Master of Arts in Development Management.
  • PhD opportunities at the center (PhD UWC).

Requirements for Eligibility.

  • Scholarship applicants should read carefully about the program’s specific entry requirements and course application procedure. The details can be found in the respective program sections. In addition to the program requirements, all applicants must meet the following:
  • Candidates must be from Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Applicants must have an outstanding academic record, with at least 70% in their most recent degree.
  • Applicants must apply within six years of completing their previous degree.
  • The studies must have been completed at a university that is internationally recognized.
  • The previous degree (Baccalaureus or Master) should have been in a field related to Development Studies or Public Administration.
  • South African students must have an honours degree to be admitted to a Masters degree program. Other students require a four-year undergraduate degree.
  • Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English. This can be a TOEFL or other similar standard test, as well as a letter from an academic institution.
  • Work and/or volunteer experience in your field of interest is recommended.
  • Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Students from South Africa are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants must be able to study full-time at the UWC for the duration of the program.

Scholarship Benefits

  • The Scholarship Program covers tuition and registration fees.
  • Plus 650 Euros per month plus travel allowances for Master’s candidates and 900 Euros plus travel allowances for PhD candidates.
  • Placement in reputable German organizations for internships.
