Interested Africans are encouraged to apply for the University of Essex Africa Postgraduate Regional Scholarship 2023/24 to study in the United Kingdom. The Africa scholarship program is designed for African students who want to pursue a Masters degree in the United Kingdom and choose the university as their study location.

If you are an international student from an African country who is self-funding their postgraduate studies, you may be eligible for a £4,000 scholarship provided as a tuition fee reduction.

Eligibility Criteria | Africa Postgraduate Regional Scholarship 2023

To be considered for the University of Essex Scholarships for Africans, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  • These scholarships are only available to international students who pay their own tuition.
  • Students must be normally resident (see definition of ordinary residence below) in an African Union member state.
  • These scholarships may be offered to applicants who have finished relevant high school or university education in one of the above-mentioned nations.
  • Applicants must have received an undergraduate degree (including integrated Masters degrees) with the necessary grade or higher. A higher Masters grade cannot be used to substitute for a lower Bachelors grade;
  • Eligible courses include full-time taught Masters courses leading to MA, MSc, MRES, and LLM degrees that begin in October 2023 or January 2024.
  • Applicants who have firmly accepted an offer of a place by 14 July 2023 (for a start in October 2023) or 13 October 2023 (for a start in January 2024) and met the academic entry requirements will be considered for these scholarships.
  • There can only be one scholarship given per student, and it cannot be combined with any other University of Essex scholarships.
  • This fellowship is only available for the first year of Masters study at Essex; successful applicants must be willing to participate in promotional activities.
  • Students who receive a repaid loan to fund their studies are deemed self-funded.

Specific Country Requirements:

  • Ghana: 2:1 or CGPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher.
  • Nigeria: CGPA of 3/5 or higher.
  • Other African Union member states: 2:1 or higher (or equivalent as stated by our Postgraduate Admissions selection criteria).

How to Apply

You must apply for admission to study at the University of Essex, and if you match the eligibility requirements outlined above, you will be immediately considered for the scholarship. You are not need to fill out an application form.

The academic transcripts and certifications you submit with your application for a place at Essex will be used to determine your eligibility.
