The 2023/2024 PTDF Overseas (Masters & Ph.D.) Scholarship Program

The federal government agency responsible for building up indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the demands of the oil and gas industry is now accepting applications from qualified individuals for overseas MSc and PhD scholarships under its PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the academic year 2023–2024.
The PTDF Overseas Scholarship Plan was created to give applicants the chance to take advantage of a diverse body of knowledge and the resources provided by top universities throughout the world. In accordance with it, candidates are asked to submit applications via PTDF to certain programmes at partner institutions. Flight tickets, health insurance, payment of tuition and bench fees (where applicable), and allowances to cover the costs of housing and living expenses are all included in the prize.

Conditions for the PTDF Overseas Scholarship Program

Applications for the 2023/2024 award will only be accepted from PTDF partner universities in Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, where it believes the high standards of the scholarship can be upheld and the goals of the programme will be best served.

  1. Only applicants who are exceptional in every way are chosen for PTDF scholarships, since the application process is extremely competitive.
  2. The most qualified candidates from each state in each category will be asked for an interview based on their provided qualifications. A review panel will then be formed to evaluate applications based on the following factors.
  3. Academic merit as demonstrated by the calibre of degrees, complete academic records, and other professional qualities obtained.
  4. Publications that the applicant should cite (PhD applicants only).
  5. Joining professional organisations
  6. The feasibility of the research or study plan.

MSc Requirements

  1. A first-degree qualification of at least Second Class Upper (2.1), or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant work experience
  2. A minimum of five O/level credits, including English and maths.
  3. Must be familiar with computers
  4. Obligated to have performed National Youth Service (NYSC)
  5. Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) outlining the motivation(s) behind the proposed study, its applicability to the sector, and also its anticipated effects on the growth of the country.
  6. Before applying for the scholarship, applicants must have a National Identification Number (NIN), and verification will be necessary (NIMC verification fees will apply).

PhD Requirements

  1. An excellent second-degree certificate and a first-degree grade of at least Second Class Lower (2.2).
  2. Must be familiar with computers.
  3. Obligated to have performed National Youth Service (NYSC).
  4. A five-page maximum study proposal that is pertinent to the oil and petrol sector must contain the following information:
  • Title\Introduction
  • Research Issue
  • Goals and Research Questions
  • Scope
  • Literature Synthesis Methodology
  • Expected results only when required
  • A letter from the vice chancellor stating that the lecturer is not receiving any other scholarships, must be produced by all lecturers (if shortlisted)
    Before applying for the scholarship, applicants must have a National Identification Number (NIN), and verification will be necessary (NIMC verification fees will apply).

Documents Needed for the PTDF Scholarship Scheme

It is recommended that applicants scan and upload the following documents to their online application forms:

  • First Degree Certificate or Statement of Results WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results
  • The PINs on the application forms to allow PTDF to check the O’level results on the pertinent website.
  • NYSC discharge certificate.
  • A recent passport photo, as well as a letter of identification from a local government.
  • Certificate of Master’s Degree (PhD Applicants only).
  • Proof of affiliation with professional organisations.

Please note that:

  1. To begin with, only PTDF partner universities and PTDF partner schools are eligible for the scholarship.
  2. Also, the suggested course of study needs to be relevant to earlier research.
  3. Finally, several applications from a candidate will result in their disqualification.
