Applications for the HFG Distinguished Scholar Awards for the 2023/24 cohort are now being accepted. The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation (HFG) encourages submissions from any of the scientific and social disciplines that address pressing contemporary issues of violence.
The Foundation promotes research into the fundamental causes that lead to violence, although priority is given to proposals that make a persuasive case for the applicability of prospective results for policies aimed at mitigating the problems.
DETAILS ON THE Distinguished Scholar Awards
The majority of grants vary from $15,000 to $45,000 each year for one or two years. Applications for bigger sums and longer terms will be considered, but they must be strongly justified. Individuals (or, on rare occasions, two or three main investigators) receive funds for specific initiatives rather than broad research support. They are not given to institutions to support institutional programs. Individuals who obtain research grants may be taxed on the monies received.

Eligibility Criteria
Interested applicants must meet the following qualifications to be considered for the HFG Distinguished Scholar Award:
- Citizens of any country may apply for the award.
- While practically all award recipients have a Ph.D., M.D., J.D., or similar degree, there are no official degree requirements for the honor.
- The award cannot be used to fund research as part of the requirements for a graduate degree.
- Applicants are not required to be linked with a higher education institution, albeit the majority are college or university teachers.
- Exhibit superior research ability.
