The JAMB (UTME) Cut-off Mark holds significant importance as it serves as a crucial criterion for granting admission to eligible and qualified students in higher educational institutions such as universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Aspiring applicants who wish to pursue their desired courses in their preferred institutions may have heard about the requirement to pass the UTME and meet their school’s minimum cut-off mark for admission consideration.

The term “Cut-off Mark” refers to the minimum score that an individual must attain in an examination or test to be deemed eligible for admission into a specific program. In the case of students aspiring to enter a higher institution, they must meet the minimum JAMB Cut-off Mark to be considered for admission into their desired course of study. Therefore, the JAMB Cut-off Mark for the year 2023 represents the minimum score a student must achieve to secure admission into their chosen program. It is worth noting that any student who falls short of the cut-off mark will not be admitted into any higher educational institution.

It is important to understand that the JAMB Cut-off Mark is determined based on careful consideration of the overall performance of students in the specific year. This evaluation is conducted by JAMB and other stakeholders. Consequently, if the overall performance of students is high in a particular year, the Cut-off Mark will be set higher, and conversely, if the overall performance is lower, the Cut-off Mark will be adjusted accordingly.

JAMB Cut-Off Mark 2023

Following thorough consultations with relevant stakeholders in the Nigerian educational sector, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) authorities will approve the cut-off marks for aspiring applicants seeking admission into tertiary institutions. The determination of these cut-off marks involves the collective voting by vice-chancellors of universities, rectors of polytechnics, and provosts of colleges of education.

It is essential to emphasize that no institution will be permitted to admit students who fall below the approved cut-off marks designated for their respective institutions of higher learning. According to JAMB, while each institution has the autonomy to set its own cut-off mark up to a maximum of 220, no university will be allowed to set a cut-off mark below 140. Likewise, polytechnics and colleges of education nationwide must not set their cut-off marks below 100 and 80, respectively. At the policy meeting convened on July 21, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially set the minimum cut-off score for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2023/2024 academic session at 140. It is important to note that JAMB has recently revised and lowered the cut-off marks.

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Cut-off mark is 140.

The management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced 140 and above as the latest and current cut-off mark for all federal, and state Universities in Nigeria.

This means that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) has adopted a minimum Cut-off point of 140 for its 2023/2024 admission exercise.

You need to pass the JAMB cut-off point of 140 to qualify for admission in 2023/2024.

JAMB also announced 100 for private Universities, 100 for Polytechnics, and 80 for college of education.

Course-Specific JAMB (UTME) Cut Off Mark

Additionally, for highly competitive courses such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Law, Engineering, Architecture, Accounting, Nursing, and other professional disciplines, students will be required to achieve exceptionally high scores in their UTME results. This is due to the intense competition for limited slots in these courses, which necessitates higher cut-off marks to select the most qualified candidates. The Nigerian Universities Commission mandates each university to admit a specific number of students annually for each course, taking into consideration accreditation and other requirements.

Subsequently, after the Post-UTME examination or screening process, each individual school will announce its cut-off mark for the relevant year, based on the overall performance of the candidates. These cut-off marks serve as a means to assess and select candidates who meet the requirements for admission into specific programs, ensuring a fair and transparent admission process in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
