The WACSI Next Generation Internship Program is now accepting applications from highly qualified individuals interested in joining an efficient, effective, impactful, and long-lasting civil society group in West Africa that reflects the region’s rich socio-cultural variety.

WACSI has completely financed this internship. The institute will provide interns with a round-trip ticket from their home country, furnished housing, lunch on working days for the duration of the internship, and a monthly stipend.

WACSI Next Generation Internship Program 2023 What to Expect

The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is a regional non-governmental organization dedicated to building the capacity of West African civil society organizations for increased sustainability, operational and development effectiveness.

Internship Responsibilities:
  • Providing assistance in the design and implementation of institutional evaluation instruments, as well as training and technical support.
  • Participating in program/project planning and proposal development at the unit and cross-unit levels.
  • Providing broad administrative support for programs, including budget monitoring, tracking, and maintaining an activity schedule.
  • Assisting with the planning and organization of the Unit’s different training and technical support programs.
  • Serving as a point of contact between WACSI and resource people, associates, partners, and beneficiaries.
  • Providing assistance in the design and development of training tools such as toolkits, modules, and other indigenous training materials.
  • Conducting research, writing, and creating briefings and fact sheets on current programs and projects.
  • Creating and documenting project work plans, reports, idea notes, and other paperwork such as training and resource materials, presentations, and budget proposals.
  • Conduct research on policy and legislative topics on your computer.
  • Assist with information collection and report drafting for policy meetings.
  • Assist with policy meetings and workshop planning.
  • Contribute to the creation of a policy advocacy training tool.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks.
  • Any other obligations that the Unit Head may designate.
  • The program is primarily aimed at young West Africans who are either recent graduates or early-career professionals looking for work experience in WACSI’s primary areas of expertise.

Criteria for Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the WACSI Next Generation Internship Program:

  • Candidates must be Africans.
  • Applicants must be from West African countries.
  • Applicants from Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, and Sierra Leone have applied.
  • Applicants with strong proficiency in English, French, or Portuguese and a working knowledge of the other two languages will be given preference.
  • The chosen intern will spend the majority of her/his internship at the WACSI office in Accra, Ghana.
  • The internship will run from July to December of 2023. Interns who are unable to finish the six-month internship will get a reimbursement from WACSI for the total cost of the internship package.
  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in international affairs, political science, public policy, law, development studies, or a comparable discipline. Applicants should also have an interest in civic society and non-profit management.
    Applicants with strong proficiency in English, French, or Portuguese and a working knowledge of the other two languages will be given preference.
  • The chosen intern will spend the majority of her/his internship at the WACSI office in Accra, Ghana.
  • The internship will run from July to December of 2023. Interns who are unable to finish the six-month internship will get a reimbursement from WACSI for the total cost of the internship package.
  • Applicants should be familiar with WACSI’s key areas of activity, which include capacity development, policy influence and advocacy, and knowledge management.
